Go By Bike VU

Everybody knows that the best way to move around Amsterdam is by bike! That’s why VU University wanted to surprise more than 1.000 new international students, from over 50 different countries, giving away almost 200 exclusive VU bikes.

To achieve this goal, we created an online campaign that would give-away the bikes in a creative way, but would also generate awareness about the VU, engage the new students and clarify the students’ questions, with the following strategy:

Special Website

A special website was created for the campaign with information how to participate, subscription form  the Hangouts, Frequently Asked Questions and list of Winners.

Facebook Quiz

A relevant and up-to-date quiz was organized to increase awareness and engagement on Facebook amongst future VU students and their friends. Questions concerning the VU, Amsterdam and Dutch Culture. The first 5 people to answer the questions correctly won a bike.

Hangout

Before the students arrived in The Netherlands, we organized five Hangout sessions so students could ask practical questions about the accommodations, internship opportunities, studying at VU and living in Amsterdam. The hangouts were broadcasted live on Youtube so other students could watch and ask questions. The students that participated in the Hangout or the ones who asked the best questions were rewarded with a bike.


Results

This online campaign resulted in 45 students participating in the Hangout sessions, questions about the student life in Amsterdam were answered and hundreds of students competed in the Facebook Quiz.  With these results the VU made almost a 160 students happy with an exclusive VU bike!
